¿BBC not available anymore in Spain?
All os us foreigners, who live or spend summer in Spain, have never wanted to give up on English television.
Until now, it was common to trick the captured signals from the IntelSat901 Satellite, with technical link at frequency 11495 V. If it’s your case, and you could also enjoy your English channels such as BBC or BBC News through satellite television, you should have noticed that this service is no longer available in Spain.
It used to be pretty easy to catch channels like the BBC through satellite decoders and receive «English DTT». The frequency used by terrestrial television broadcasters in the United Kingdom was the same in Spain so, because of the orientation of the IntelSat 901 satellite at 27.5º West with respect to the meridian, it could guarantee coverage of English channels to the majority of Spain’s territory.
However, as the contract by the UK channels with IntelSat901 was not renewed, this link has been discontinued, as it has been rumored for a couple of years. Therefore, Spain no longer receives satellite signals with enough quality to offer English DTT Channels.
TELSTAR 12 VANTAGE
The fact that the English channels have not renewed their contract with the IntelSat 901 satellite, does not mean that they are not being broadcasted.
The United Kingdom now uses links that broadcast its channels through the Telstar 12 Vantage satellite, located with an orientation of 15º West, for its terrestrial television repeaters. The problem is that in Spain we do not have visibility towards this new orientation, except in some areas very northeast of the country with minimal quality, which dulls its reception.
No installer who intends to receive new UK broadcasts from the Telstar 12 satellite will be able to guarantee reliable, quality reception of English channels to their customers.
