White vhfBridge Jeweller for Third-Party VHF Transmitters

The Ajax vhfBridge AJ-VHFBRIDGE-W connects an Ajax security system to a third-party VHF transmitter, providing an additional channel for sending alarms and events to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). It can operate as the primary communication channel or as a backup when internet and cellular networks are unavailable.

The module communicates with the hub through the bidirectional Jeweller wireless protocol, providing a range of up to 1,800 metres in open space. Its 8 transistor outputs can be configured as positive or negative triggers and set to pulse or bistable mode to suit the inputs of the external VHF transmitter.

It is compatible with Hub 2, Hub Plus and Hub 2 Plus, allowing integration with an Ajax Hub 2 alarm control panel. It is particularly suitable for properties in remote, mountainous or poorly connected areas, as well as sites exposed to communication sabotage. An Ajax ReX 2 wireless range extender can also be used where the Jeweller coverage needs to be extended. It is intended for new installations or system expansions and is not a spare part.

The vhfBridge is powered from a 100–240 V AC mains supply and has space for a 12 V DC, 4 Ah or 7 Ah backup battery, which is not included. It can supply the VHF transmitter with up to 2 A and provide up to 75 hours of backup operation, depending on the battery and transmitter consumption. The external VHF transmitter is not included, and vhfBridge does not transmit visual alarm verification images.

Practical Applications of the Ajax vhfBridge AJ-VHFBRIDGE-W

Example 1. Alarm transmission from a remote site to an ARC

An installer protecting an isolated property, nature reserve or infrastructure located in a mountainous area can connect the Ajax vhfBridge to an external VHF transmitter. Alarms and system events can then be sent to the Alarm Receiving Centre without relying on internet or cellular coverage. The final VHF transmission distance depends on the external transmitter, antenna and terrain.

Example 2. Backup channel against internet or cellular network sabotage

In a commercial building, warehouse or professional security installation normally connected through Ethernet or a cellular network, the integrator can use vhfBridge as an additional communication channel. If the primary connection is interrupted or sabotaged, the third-party VHF transmitter maintains an independent route to the ARC for the events assigned to the module’s eight outputs.
