The ranger cable is a hybrid analyzer for DOCSIS and HFC (optical) networks.

HFC networks increasingly use fiber optic. It includes an input for optical measurements that allows field technicians not only to carry out optical power measurements, but thanks to the built-in RF optical converter it also allows them to take all the RF measurements related to RFoG (Radiofrequency Over Glass - Radiofrequency on Fiber). In this mode, the optical power measurement is shown along with the rest of the measurements.

RFoG is becoming popular among CATV operators because it allows them to benefit from the advantages of fiber optics to compete with FTTH service providers.
